Animated Alphabet

Summary of the Brief - Invent, modify, record, distort, film and animate your own individual alphabet

Ideas - ripping paper - into the shape of the letters - stop motion? 
         - burning/unburning - setting fire to paper type and then reversing video
         -Elemental Type - Using 4 elements: fire/air/earth/water

Possible fonts - I want my typeface to be uppercase and bold so that the type stands out.

I decided that I wanted to use Elemental sans, however this is quite expensive to download so I found a free font called Estragon, which is very similar to Elemental.


Creating the Alphabet

- My original Idea was to use the 4 elements and have some letters being affected by fire, some by earth, some by water and some by air.

- I started with fire, I had some trouble setting the paper letters alight with just a match so eventually I decided that the easiest (and probably safest) way to do it was on a barbeque.

- I then looked at ways of removing the background in AfterEffects and found that I was able to do this using the "Roto brush" tool.

- After showing Chris one of the burning letters with the background removed, he told me to do all of them like this, although i did still film some tests with water, air and earth.
